Süheyla Sagir

Süheyla Sagir

1st Chairwoman Ever since Süheyla heard a travel report from Africa from her former workshop teacher at the vocational school for opticians, she was convinced that she wanted to take part in a project focusing on eye health. No sooner said than done. She found Elmar and Harald and flew to Uganda for the first time in 2022 with this combination of three. She was bursting with new ideas on how this project could be carried into the future in a sustainable way. She also inspired new fellow travellers. She is one of the founding members of TravelEye e.V.

"Knowledge is a treasure that you can take with you wherever you go and share."

Selina Knipping

Selina Knipping

2nd Chairwoman It has always been one of her heart's desires - to use her passion for her profession as an optician to give many people a bit of quality of life again. - Her wish was fulfilled by the project in spring 2023 and she travelled to Uganda. Selina quickly realised that they all had to continue to develop the project and the topic of eye health there together. She is one of the founding members of TravelEye e.V.

"We can't change the wind, but we can change the sails."

Treasurer Harald was in Africa for the first time in June 2001. Back then, he was there to observe the total solar eclipse in Zimbabwe. Since then, the continent has never let him go. The master optician has successfully run his business in northern Bavaria for over 30 years. Now he is committed to helping countries where eye health is not a matter of course. He is one of the founding members of TravelEye e.V.

"I learnt the optician's trade in analogue times. This is extremely useful in Uganda. We achieve maximum impact there with the simplest of means."

Elmar Weckenbrock

Elmar Weckenbrock

Elmar has been involved in Uganda for over 25 years. Initially, as chairman of the "Ugandakreis Heiligenstadt e.V.", he organised many aid projects in the partner community of Lwamaggwa and implemented them with local friends. During this time, he was often asked for used glasses. But it was only when he heard about the OneDollarGlasses that he realised that these glasses could be the first step towards solving the problem. Since 2018, the OneDollarGlasses have been made available to people in Uganda. He is one of the founding members of TravelEye e.V.

"Many small people doing many small things in many places can change the face of the world."
